Respect the power of water

We understand that as the whether improves, rivers can become a very tempting way to cool off. However, open water can be extremely dangerous places if you are unprepared for all possible scenarios.

Waterways staff are Water Safety trained to ensure they know exactly how to act safety in an emergency situation. Our volunteers who assist on a number of our locks also undergo throwline training which equips them to assist correctly should anyone accidentally enter the water.

For information on how to act in a safe manner around water and what to do if you find yourself in a difficult situation, please read the statement below released by Cambs Fire and Rescue Service.
