Winter Works

Please be aware that contractors will be carrying out inspections on the River Nene from 13 May 2024 for approx. 3 weeks.

Please leave the locks in the correct position with guillotine gate raised and v doors closed.

General Hazards following removal of Strong Stream Advice

Anti-Social behaviour at our sites needs to be reported to the Police.  Any damage to our sites also needs reporting to the EA.

Canoe Portage closed due to vandalism

Cogenhoe Lock is closed until further notice due to a third-party power supply issue.

We are aware of a large amount of floating weed on the river at these locations.  Please see notice for further details.

Please be aware the upstream canoe portage point at this lock has been closed until further notice.

Please ensure paddles are left completely closed when leaving the lock.

As per the annual winter shutdown, the Elsan, pump-out and water point at Wellingborough Embankment will not be in operation from 1 November 2023 to 31 March 2024 inclusive.

Fallen tree blocking a third of the navigation channel

There is a missing fender with protruding bolts.

Safety Boom has been damaged in recent floods.

Please be aware that works to repair the damage to Irthlingborough Moorings is due to take place between 15 April and 10 June 2024

Fallen tree DS of the lock. Landowner is making arrangements for tree removal.

Please be aware that there is a void at the bottom of the downstream landing stage steps. Due to this, the steps are therefore, closed until further notice. Access and egress can be made from the centre of the landing stage where the incline is gentle.

There are loose and unstable bricks on the navigation arch of the bridge at Irthlingborough. Please navigate with extreme caution in the area and under the bridge.

Underwater obstruction 5 meters upstream of Islip 48hr mooring

Emergency Navigation Closure Notice for the River Nene for Titchmarsh Lock which requires some urgent operational checks which will take place  Monday 22nd April 2024 morning only.

Please be advised that owing to electro- mechanical issues the guillotine has been put to hand wheel.
We are currently working on the issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Please be advised that the elongated period of SSA on the River Nene has caused some erosion at both ends of this structure. The affected areas have been fenced off and boaters are advised to keep clear.

There is a fender missing leaving exposed protruding bolts. 

Shoal approximately 50m downstream of lock. Boaters are advised to keep to the centre of the navigation channel for at least 100m downstream of the lock. 

There is a fender missing at Wadenhoe Lock, please navigate with caution.

Please note there is a sunken boat. Although passable, please navigate with caution 

Lilford Lock will be closed during the dates stated for winter works.

A fender is missing on the downstream side of Upper Barnwell Lock.

We have had reports of a tree branch in the navigation upstream of Upper Barnwell Lock.  Please navigate with caution.

Upper Barnwell Lock will be closed during the dates stated for winter works.

Contractors have attended site repair electrical sensor issue. Please refrain from tampering or attempting to override the sensors.

Canoe Portage: for safety reasons the canoe portage has been removed. We advise canoeists to use Upper Barnwell syphon portages, using the back channel to the main watercourse downstream of Lower Barnwell Lock.

Securing: the usual barrel locking mechanism has failed and a temporary arrangement is in place. Please ensure the handwheel is securely locked before departing.

There is a willow tree fallen over the track at Ashton Lock.  Please avoid the area until this is removed.

Please be aware there is a gravel shoal at Ashton Lock downstream. Marker buoys have been placed.

There is a fallen tree downstream of Cotterstock Lock.  Please navigate with caution.

Both portages at this lock have been taken out of service due to safety concerns. Please avoid these structures and use the landing stages for portage.

There is a fallen tree between Fotheringhay Bridge and Warmington Lock.  The tree is passable with care.

Warmington Lock will be closed during the dates stated for winter works.

Please be aware of a fallen tree approx 150m downstream of Elton Road Bridge.

A fender is missing on the downstream side of Yarwell Lock.

Partially Sunken Boat around Yarwell Country Park

There is a fallen tree approx. 500 metres downstream of Wansford Lock.

Wansford Lock will be closed during the dates stated for winter works.

Please be aware one of the paddle gearboxes at Water Newton Lock is currently out of order. However, the lock will still efficiently fill with the alternative paddle.

There is a collapsed footpath opposite Charters Bar.  Please proceed with caution.

Please be aware there are overgrown trees downstream of Milton Ferry Bridge. Please navigate with caution.

Opposite the Key Theatre: recent development works have revealed an area where passing boats may strike underwater objects. Affected area marked with buoys.
